    Recently Austin's artificial intelligence laboratory of University of Texas is researching in autonomous intersection control (AIM) in the guidance of this concept. Self driving cars aren't going to stop at a red traffic light but to adjust the speed to control the time of passing through intersections in real time.
　　
    This project is not only aimed at eliminate the waiting time of the intersection,but also reducing fuel consumption and emissions. "Many of the emissions and fuel consumption are caused by the acceleration, and our system will allow the car running at a more constant speed.Although the AIM system is complex, it is superior to the traffic warning light for guarantee of the safety of the intersection.”Project director Stone Peter said.
　　
    “There are thirty percent of the fatal traffic accident  taking place at the intersection ,which proves it is dangerous when driving at the intersection. In condition of automated driving,the situation will be greatly improved even keeping all cars passing through the intersection at the same time.
